NATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY

  The birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru is observed annually as National Children’s Day . 
        The Department of Posts, Government of India has been issuing commemorative postage stamps on children themes on this day every year since 1957.
        The First postage stamps were issued in 1957. 
        No stamps were issued in 1967 - 1970, 1979, 1988, 1989, 2003 and 2014. 
        The International Year of Child was observed in 1979 and stamps were issued on the ICY theme
        The Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary was observed in 1988 - 1989 and stamps were issued in his honour. 
        The design of stamps were based on photographs from 1957 to . 
        The design of stamps and first day covers were based on prize winning entries of national level painting competition held by the Department of Posts. 
        Uni Coloured stamps were issued from 1957 and Multicoloured stamps were issued from 1974.
